Bengals rookie offensive lineman D'Ante Smith will be placed on injured reserve before Sunday's game against the Lions.
The 23-year-old suffered a meniscus injury in Wednesday's practice and will miss extended time.
"He'll have surgery, he'll be out at least through the bye," head coach Zac Taylor said on Friday. "He'll be week-to-week after that."
The Bengals are already without Xavier Su'a-Filo, who is on injured reserve with a knee injury of his own. That means rookie Jackson Carman will likely be the Bengals' starting right guard for the foreseeable future.
Carman was activated from the NFL's COVID-19/Reserve list on Friday.
