The NFL Draft is an age of hope for many. Incoming rookies and just about every team in the league are brimming with optimism.
But sometimes, veterans see their future change over draft weekend, for better and for worse.
Today, we're going to look at three current Steelers who emerged on either side of the coin, and one who should be there soon enough...
The Steelers didn't take a quarterback until the sixth round of the draft via Ohio State's Will Howard. Despite a heavy link to Shedeur Sanders and his fall all the way to the fifth round, Pittsburgh decided against taking him, Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, and every other QB not named Cam Ward or Will Howard.
If that doesn't tell you Rodgers is a Pittsburgh Steeler, im not sure what will. Howard is a great story, and he has all the makings of a 10-year pro. But that will likely be as a backup opposed to a starter.
It's Rodgers' team whenever he wants it.

Not only did Watt not receive the extension he is looking for, but the team decided to take pass rusher Jack Sawyer to kick off their selections on Saturday. That was not a position of need, and while I'm not part of the conspiracy crowd that believes Sawyer was drafted because the team is going to trade Watt (I mean, come on guys he's a fourth rounder), I have to admit that it's not a great look.
Despite heavy speculation that Pickens would be dealt over draft weekend, he remains on the team, and better yet, Pittsburgh didn't take a single swing on a WR through seven rounds.
For a team as proficient at drafting and developing WRs as Pittsburgh, the message was clear: barring an unexpected trade that would net Pittsburgh either very significant draft capital or picks and a WR, Pickens isn't going anywhere.

Warren may have officially signed his tender over the weekend, but the Steelers back is likely going to continue to work in as a change of pace player after Pittsburgh used their second pick in the draft to select Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson.
At over 6-1, 220+ pounds and with excellent tape, Johnson figures to work in as both the present and future of the Pittsburgh running nack room.
