Bilal Powell Says Current Jets Worse Than Gase era Group

Former Jets running back Bilal Powell took the mic for his new and while he didn’t do that thing that so many podcasters do.  Powell wasn’t screaming a stream of blistering hot takes to get some easy clicks, but he did have a few thoughts that may surprise a few folks.

Largely supportive of Jets new head coach Aaron Glenn, Powell suggested that perhaps it’s time for Glenn to demote defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as his unit is getting scorched on a weekly basis.  “It’s not the talent” said Powell’s sidekick, Rami Lavi; it’s the coaching.

After what Jets fans have watched through the season’s first two weeks, this is a hard point to disagree with.

While the Jets defense is far from perfect, they have enough talent to be much better than they have been up to this point.  Having a core group that includes Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner, Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson (when healthy) and Jamien Sherwood shouldn’t be getting scorched for 3o points per game.  But sadly, that’s what this group is right now.  Glenn isn’t exactly on the verge of getting fired, but he does need a win to avoid the first ever 0-5 start for a Jets head coach in franchise history.

With the Cowboys and Dak Prescott on deck, both Powell and Lavi suggested this could be a very high scoring affair with the Jets coming up short.  If so, the historically bad 0-5 start might justify another one of Powell’s takes which was that this team, in his mind, is in a worse place right now than they were during the failed tenure of Adam Gase.  Ouch.

Bilal Powell and Rami Lavi will be a weekly fixture and you can tune in on Spotify, iTunes or anywhere you get your podcasts.
