Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are facing off against Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots for Week 4 of the 2026 NFL regular season. After finishing runner-up to Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks in last year’s Super Bowl, New England bolstered its roster by acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Patriots have fallen short of the high expectations so far during the 2026 NFL regular season, sitting at a 1-2 record, with Brown on IR and quarterback Drake Maye leading the NFL in turnovers. On the other side, first-year Buffalo head coach Joe Brady has his team humming. Quarterback Allen has been tremendous, completing 65.1% of his passes for five touchdowns and two interceptions.
Allen has made his bones in the run game, with the 6-foot-5 quarterback already accumulating six rushing touchdowns this year entering the Week 4 matchup against New England. In the second quarter against the Patriots, Allen made Bills franchise history on a touchdown run.
With 1:00 remaining in the second quarter, Allen rushed the ball for a touchdown. The touchdown was his 88th career touchdown, 86 of which have been rushing along with two receiving touchdowns. The score broke the Buffalo franchise record of 87, which was set in a tie by running back Thurman Thomas and wide receiver Andre Reed.
Buffalo went to social media to announce the new franchise record. On the social media website X, the Bills posted a picture of Allen celebrating with teammates, along with a caption detailing the new record.
“Josh Allen records his 88th career touchdown (86 rushing & 2 receiving),” the Buffalo Bills wrote on X. “Establishing a new Buffalo Bills scrimmage TD franchise record. Allen surpasses Thurman Thomas & Andre Reed (87 career scrimmage TDs).”
