Bills Announce QB Cut Ahead of Title Game
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of beating the Kansas City Chiefs, and that means trying to win along the margins – every margin.

That includes optimizing the practice squad to best prepare for Kansas City and whatever might come next.

Subsequently, the Bills announced the cut of quarterback Anthony Brown ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

The move comes as a corresponding move to signing defensive tackle Eli Ankou.

Ankou spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Buffalo but has also earned looks with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, and Atlanta Falcons.

He appeared in two games for the Bills in 2024. In that time, he recorded five tackles across 34 snaps.

Brown had been on the practice squad so Buffalo could adequately prepare for Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson. Few can compare to Jackson’s talent – much less while remaining on a practice squad – but Brown’s athleticism was as close as Buffalo could find under center.

Jackson played well in the Divisional Round, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Bills mostly contained his impact on the ground, limiting him to just 39 yards.

Buffalo also remained disciplined in its pass rush and forced Jackson to commit two turnovers – awfully decisive in a 27-25 Bills win.

They’ll hope this minor transaction pays larger dividends on Sunday, even if it remains unlikely that Ankou gets the green light on Sunday.

The AFC Championship Game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on CBS.
