The Buffalo Bills will be a bit shorthanded against the New England Patriots for their Week 5 matchup. On Friday, while speaking to the media ahead of practice, head coach Sean McDermott officially ruled out rookie cornerback Dorian Strong and linebacker Dorian Williams for the contest. The head coach didn't offer much when asked about specifics surrounding Strong's injury.
"I don't really know, a little bit maybe from this past weekend's game, maybe something before that," McDermott said. "We're looking into that some more."
It wasn't all bad news, though, as McDermott gave an exciting update on linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle Ed Oliver. While not confirming their statuses for Week 5, it was an encouraging update from McDermott.
"They've looked good, they have," McDermott said. "They're both extremely competitive. They go out and practice every day and work hard; it's good to have both of them out there practicing again for sure."
McDermott said that all players outside of both Dorians (Williams and Strong) would be available on an hour-by-hour basis when asked about their participation in the upcoming contest.
The team has been a bit banged up for the past few matchups, and is still finding ways to win. Milano and Oliver are two staples on the defense, and their presence in the run game has been missed.
Oliver got injured ahead of the Week 2 matchup against the Jets after having his best game as a professional in Week 1. Fans were excited to see more of what Oliver can do on the defense, but he's been sidelined for the past few weeks.

Rookie T.J. Sanders sprang up on the injury report on Thursday, with two interior pass rushers and run stoppers potentially being out of the contest, which could change the game plan for the Patriots heading into the contest.
Milano has missed quite some time in recent seasons, and the Bills Mafia was hoping to get some of the All-Pro linebacker back in action. The pairing of linebacker Terrel Bernard with Milano is a nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators, and getting him back on the field will be a huge help.

The other notable names who were limited in practice were tight end Jackson Hawes and offensive lineman Spencer Brown. As McDermott said, they would be taking it hour by hour with everyone and their injuries. Perhaps the positive is that McDermott hasn't flat-out ruled anyone outside of the Dorians, which could mean a relatively full slate of healthy players available to Buffalo.
All that's left to do is wait, and it won't be long for the Bills Mafia. Injuries are inevitable, and the Bills, along with their front office, will do everything in their power to ensure the team is ready to compete on Sunday.
