Bills Could 'Alter' Josh Allen's Contract After Playoff Run

For the sixth year in a row quarterback Josh Allen has led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs and for the fifth year in a row he's taken them to the Divisional Round.

Allen leads the Bills in what will likely be a very hard-fought game against the Baltimore Ravens and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson on national television tomorrow. The winner of that game will advance to the AFC Championship Game for just the second time in both quarterbacks' careers.

But whether the Bills' season ends tomorrow, next weekend or after the Super Bowl, the team is apparently looking to "alter" Allen's NFL contract this coming offseason.

Allen is on the early end of a six-year, $258 million contract extension that he signed in 2021 and is currently on the books through 2028. However, the team front-loaded the contract, making it so Allen will only make $14.5 million in 2025 - significantly below the market value for his services.

On Saturday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Bills could revisit and alter Allen's contract so that he will make more money in 2025 and beyond.

Allen has a strong case to be among the highest-paid players in NFL history on his next contract. While he may not have Patrick Mahomes' rings, Allen has consistently ranked among the NFL's best regular season performers for the past five years.

This past season wasn't statistically his best year, but he still finished the year as a Second-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection. He had 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns with six interceptions in 17 games (though only played in 16 of them) and led the NFL with a 77.5 QBR.

Allen followed up a superb regular season with a near-flawless performance in the Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs in a blowout win over the Denver Broncos. He completed 77-percent of his passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns while adding 46 rushing yards in an easy 31-7 win.

Allen and the Bills will have the homefield advantage against the Ravens on Sunday, with the winner going on to face either the Kansas City Chiefs or Houston Texans in next week's AFC Championship Game.
