Before September, Buffalo Bills defensive end Joey Bosa played in just 28 games during his previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers due to numerous injuries.
While Bosa is a decorated five-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher, his lack of reliability to stay healthy prompted the Chargers to release him in the offseason. He signed a one-year deal with the Bills worth $12.6M.
Bosa is trying not to think about his previous injuries this season. Per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, Bosa said "playing scared" can cause more problems.
"It's really tough, but playing scared and playing trying not to get injured is just going to cause more issues than not," Bosa said. "So, when you decide to play it another year, you make that deal with yourself, like 'I'm OK with getting injured, like, it's part of the game,' but you're not going to think about it while you're out there. You're going to go full speed a hundred miles an hour and whatever happens, happens."
Bosa has played and started in all four games for the Bills this season. Bosa, 30, has made a huge impact in the first month, recording eight tackles, two sacks and four forced fumbles for Buffalo.
Bosa believes playing fast is the best way for him to protect his body.
"But usually if you're playing fast and violent and physical, then you're actually going to end up protecting yourself more than if you're watching around the pile, you're not running to the ball, you're going to roll up or whatever it is," Bosa said.
Bosa and the 4-0 Bills are set to host quarterback Drake Maye and the 2-2 New England Patriots on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 5.
