Bills GM mentions another criticism of QB Josh Allen

It turns out Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has at least two specific criticisms of star quarterback Josh Allen this offseason.

"Probably had some where he was careless with the ball. That happens, though," Beane explained during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, as shared by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "We know who Josh is and he always believes there’s a play to be made and a lot of time he makes them. We always try to remind ourselves that you can’t get onto him because look at home many times he does make a play. This year more than others he did have some red zone turnovers, we have to look at why that happened."

Alper added that Allen threw a league-high five interceptions in the end zone this season.

Interestingly, Beane said earlier this week that he'd like for Allen to work on taking fewer hits ahead of next season. PFT's Michael David Smith pointed out the 26-year-old took 33 sacks, the second-highest total for that category of his pro career, and also notched a career-high 124 rushing attempts during the 2022 campaign. Allen was widely perceived as a midseason Most Valuable Player Award favorite until he suffered a right elbow injury in early November.

Allen will likely again be one of the very best players at his position next fall. Per ESPN stats, he finished this regular season second among qualified players with a 71.4 total QBR, tied for second with 35 passing touchdowns, and seventh with 4,283 passing yards. He was third among quarterbacks with 762 rushing yards and contributed seven additional scores on the ground.

Allen also tossed 14 interceptions, more than all but two signal-callers.

Bills receiver Stefon Diggs clearly was less-than-thrilled with Allen during the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last month. Beane also sounds at least somewhat frustrated with his QB1 this winter.
