Even after trading for DJ Moore, the Buffalo Bills could use another playmaker for the passing game.
Over the past week or so, social media activity has hinted at Stefon Diggs' potential return.
He didn't leave the team on good terms, but he's still unsigned and would probably agree to join a contender at a discount.
Nevertheless, Bills insider Matt Parrino of NYUP.com just doesn't see that happening, given Diggs' potential role as a slot specialist at this point in his career.
“One of the things I have seen on social media the last couple of days is the Stefon Diggs idea,” Parrino said. “I don’t see the fit with what’s on the roster right now and where an aging Stefon Diggs, who would primarily play in the slot for wherever he signs this season, how that is going to get worked into this specific wide receiver room.”
The Bills already have several options in the slot. Khalil Shakir does most of his damage in the slot, and Bills head coach Dalton Kincaid also uses Dalton Kincaid there.
Diggs is no longer a YAC specialist, and he's never been the fastest guy in the game. He may no longer be suited to endure the wear and tear of being a prototypical X receiver at this point in his career.
He burned some bridges with the organization and never seemed to have the best relationship with Josh Allen.
So, as much as the Bills clearly need another pass catcher, especially if Keon Coleman doesn't get it together in year three, they might not have much use for their former star.
