Bills: Is the Josh Allen curse real?
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills had to watch the Kansas City Chiefs beat them in the playoffs for the third time in the last four postseasons, but the Chiefs may be on borrowed time as they prepare to take on the No. 1 seeded Baltimore Ravens.

It's not just because Lamar Jackson and co. are currently the best team in football, either. It's because, some way, somehow, any quarterback that has beaten Josh Allen and the Bills in the postseason has seen their season end the subsequent week.

It's interesting that the four losers average just 21.0 points per game - that would've tied the Denver Broncos for 21st out of all 32 teams in 2023.

But the quarterback performances in those games stand out, as well. Deshaun Watson, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes (twice) threw a combined six touchdowns to six interceptions in those four contests and they were sacked a total of 16 times, altogether.

This year, the Chiefs offense certainly hasn't been what we're used to seeing, although Mahomes and co. did put together a nice performance against the Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Still, the sample size shows an offense that has issues and inconsistencies, as a whole.

The Ravens defense is no joke, either. It's arguably the best unit in the NFL and defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald has shown he can scheme up a game plan against the top offensive minds in the league.

In other words: There's a good chance that the Allen Curse will reach Mahomes for a third time and NFL quarterbacks, in general, for the fifth season in a row.

At least the guy gets some kind of postseason reprieve.
