The latest update from the start of workouts for the Buffalo Bills is a bit of a concerning one.
The top running back for Buffalo is not present to begin OTAs for the Bills, according to reports. All other healthy players are present, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
#Bills coach Sean McDermott says all players are present for OTAs except RB James Cook, while Joey Bosa pulled a calf and will be out for the foreseeable future.

For fans, this is a tough blow for their hopes that Cook's contract situation wouldn't affect any more of the offseason. Instead, he is missing time with the team, as he pushes for a contract extension.
Bills GM Brandon Beane hasn't been afraid to make comments regarding Cook's potential deal that looms over the offense for now. At the 2025 Annual League Meetings, the general manager gave an update on the situation.
“His reps have put it out there that we did talk, so that's not anything new. It didn't lead to anything as far as closing in on a deal, so we moved on to the guys that we were all on the same page with. I don’t see us getting something done anytime soon. We’re onto the draft."
"Just because we don’t get something done this year doesn’t mean we can’t get something done before he’s a free agent," -- Brandon Beane
Cook is looking for $15 million per season on his new deal. The extension won't be cheap, but the RB has also vastly outproduced his current price when it comes to his contract.
The Bills have given contract extensions to quarterback Josh Allen, defensive lineman Greg Rousseau, cornerback Christian Benford, wide receiver Khalil Shakir, and linebacker Terrel Bernard during this offseason. They've been busy, just not with finishing a deal with Cook - seemingly.
We will see if Buffalo navigates their way to a consensus with Cook's camp. Regardless, the length of this negotiation could bleed into more meaningful pieces of the offseason for Cook and the Bills.
