Key Points:
Sunday’s much-anticipated contest between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs did not disappoint. There was no shortage of action in the back-and-forth affair, with neither team willing to let up until the very end.
After a hard-fought battle, however, it was the Bills who came out on top. Ty Johnson played his part in Sunday’s big victory. The Bills running back registered two carries for eight yards and one rushing touchdown. He also added two catches for 12 receiving yards.
Thanks in part to Johnson’s performance and his first rushing TD of the season, the Bills were able to secure a home win at Highmark Stadium, 28-21.
Josh Allen took center stage in this one with a highly efficient performance. The Bills star quarterback finished with 23-of-26 completed passes for 273 yards and one touchdown. Allen also rushed six times for 19 yards and two more TDs.
Patrick Mahomes, on the other hand, faltered against Buffalo. The three-time Super Bowl-winning QB logged a career-low 15-of-34 completed passes for 250 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
It was Johnson, however, who was involved in a contentious incident in the game. The Bills RB was flagged for a face mask violation at the 12:57 mark of the second quarter. The penalty was called after Chiefs wide receiver Niko Remigio returned a punt to the 22-yard line. The violation led to an automatic 15-yard penalty, resulting in the Chiefs starting their drive at the 37-yard line.
Kansas City pushed the ball forward before finishing the drive with a 46-yard field goal courtesy of kicker Harrison Butker. That score gave the Chiefs their first and only lead of the game, 10-7.
Given the nature of the incident, Johnson could potentially face a fine from the league for his actions. The NFL Officiating Department will review every play from Sunday’s contest, including Johnson’s face mask penalty. If the league determines that he acted excessively, the former Maryland Terrapins standout will receive a hefty fine.
It is worth noting that Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown was retroactively fined $12,172 earlier in the season following a hit to the helmet/mask of an opponent. While Brown’s incident is different from that of Johnson, the latter’s penalty from Sunday’s game will, at the very least, be reviewed by the NFL.
The Bills, who are now 6-2 after beating the Chiefs, will be looking to make it three straight wins in Week 10 when they battle the 2-7 Miami Dolphins. Kansas City, on the other hand, will get a bye in Week 10 after falling to 5-4.
