Bills promote Ken Dorsey to offensive coordinator

When the New York Giants poached assistant general manager Joe Schoen and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll from the Buffalo Bills to be their newest GM and head coach, respectively, some assumed that Buffalo quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey would follow his co-workers to MetLife Stadium. On Tuesday afternoon, the Bills announced that wouldn't be the case.

Dorsey has served as Buffalo's quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the last three seasons, which has coincided with the ascension of Pro Bowl signal-caller Josh Allen. After helping the Bills to a 13-3 mark with a career-high 37 passing touchdowns and 4,544 passing yards against just 10 interceptions in 2020, Allen finished second in the NFL MVP voting.

"I think when he got here three years ago, my career definitely changed in terms of how I viewed the game of football," Allen said of Dorsey, per Bills insider Chris Brown. "Just having a guy in the quarterback room that played the game, was the winningest college quarterback of all time. He was 38-2. He'll never let me forget that. He says it all the time, but just the way he approaches the game. He's competitive. He's smart. He works his a** off. I appreciate what he's done for me over the course of my career so far."

Dorsey played with the San Francisco 49eres and Cleveland Browns during his five-year NFL career from 2004 to 2008, recording 2,082 passing yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games (13 starts). The 40-year-old had a brief stint as the assistant athletic director at Florida International and offensive assistant at Appalachian State in 2018 before heading to Western New York.

The Orinda, Calif., native also served five seasons as the Carolina Panthers' quarterbacks coach from 2013 to 2017.
