The Buffalo Bills will enter Week 18 against the New England Patriots, knowing their playoff seeding will remain the same regardless of the result.
That presents a chance for several backups to get significant game time as the coaching staff wraps the stars in cotton wool. While Josh Allen will be starting, the exact number of snaps No. 17 will play is unknown, but we can't imagine it will be a lot.
That means back Mitch Trubisky will get a large number of snaps, and with Mike White signed to the active roster off the practice squad, expect him to see the field against New England as well.
“I would say Mike's done a great job, hopefully, he'll have a chance to play Sunday,” McDermott said of White. “He, like the others, has worked extremely hard, been a great addition to our team and a true class act.”
White has just seven starts to his name in his career and is 2-5 with 2,695 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
It will be a good chance for Buffalo's backups to put their best foot forward because, as we know with the NFL, anything can happen. If the injury bug bites down on the Bills, McDermott and his coaching staff will need to know who they can and can't count on.
So, while there isn't much riding on the result against the Patriots, for players like White, it is a chance to enhance their claim for a roster spot beyond 2024.
And when you're a "class act," that might play in your favor.
