Bills Signing Ranked Among Worst Free Agent Signings

The Buffalo Bills made a mistake giving Larry Ogunjobi a one-year fully-guaranteed $8.3 million contract, according to Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team.

Ogunjobi was released by the Steelers on Tuesday, just before the start of free agency, despite having a lot of space under the salary cap. So, cap room was not a problem. It must have been ability,

"The Pittsburgh Steelers released Larry Ogunjobi on Tuesday despite having a ton of cap space, which usually isn’t a good sign for a player," Mosher said. "However, it didn’t take long for Ogunjobi to find his next home, signing a deal with the Bills early on Wednesday morning."

Ogunjobi is a player whose skills have diminished. He is a designated pass rusher, who has not accumulated very many sacks over the years.

"Ogunjobi has been a declining player for years and he’s always been a poor run defender," Mosher said. "He can be an adequate pass rusher at times, but even that part of his game has fallen off after recording just six sacks in the past three seasons."

For the kind of money the Bills are paying Ogunjobi, he should be a game changer. He needs to be the type of player who can lineup next to Joey Bosa and make a tackle or get a sack when called upon.

Mosher doesn't think that's the case for Ogunjobi.

"The Bills are paying Ogunjobi to be a starter, and that’s a mistake at this point in his career," Mosher said. "He should be a rotational defensive tackle who gets paid near the veteran minimum. This was a clear overpay for a not-very-good player."
