The Houston Astros received significant injury news on Thursday, hours before the MLB trade deadline at 6 p.m. ET.
With a five-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West, the Astros are focused on making a deep postseason run in October, but it will be challenging to do so without one of their best hitters.
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Astros are preparing to be without third baseman Isaac Paredes for the remainder of the year due to a hamstring injury.
"The Houston Astros are now bracing themselves to be without third baseman Isaac Paredes for at least 6 to 7 months with his torn hamstring," Nightengale posted on X. "The hope is that he can be ready by Opening Day 2026."
Nightengale's report is much more disappointing than the one that came from Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 on Wednesday.

The Astros were hoping Paredes would only miss two months in a best-case scenario, allowing him to rejoin the team around the start of the playoffs.
Paredes wanted a second opinion to avoid surgery, but unfortunately, the injury is too severe.
His bat won't be easy for Houston to replace. The 26-year-old has slashed .259/.359/.470 with a team-leading 19 home runs and 50 RBI.
Per MLB.com, the Astros pulled off a small trade on Wednesday to help fill the hole in the roster. Houston sent minor league pitcher Twine Palmer to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for infielder Ramon Urias.
Urias is batting .248 with eight home runs and 34 RBI this season.
