Buffalo Bills standout Dion Dawkins is missing the Buffalo practice on Thursday after a small plane crashed in his yard, a tragedy that has reportedly left one person dead.
Law enforcement from the area near Dawkins' home in Aurora, New York, stated the plane was engulfed in flames after it landed on the ground just feet away from Dawkins' residence.
Neither Dawkins nor anyone else in the area of the wreck was injured, authorities added, and the Dawkins family is safe.
Officials stated the plane was on its way to New York from Michigan and that it is the pilot who apparently passed away.
Further details surrounding the crash are still being made available as the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement on Thursday afternoon that is has launched an investigation into the matter.
Dawkins, 30, was understandably excused from the practice with the Bills as they prepare to take their 11-3 record up against the 3-11 New England Patriots.
Dawkins' fiancee is is registered nurse Daiyaana Muhammad. The couple share three children.
The left tackle, who has played all seven seasons of his NFL career in Buffalo, has been an iron man this year in protecting MVP leader Josh Allen
