Bitter Micah Parsons divorce won’t affect ex-teammate repped by colleague of Packers star’s agent

Generously phrased, Micah Parsons’ relationship with the Cowboys ended on extremely poor terms. The sour contract stalemate dragged on, growing in intensity, throughout the entire offseason until the Packers mercifully swooped in.

In an interesting twist, Parsons is represented by David Mulugheta, whose partner at Athletes First, an agency firm, represents Cowboys receiver George Pickens. Mulugheta clarified that any bad blood between his client and the franchise will not translate to the contract talks between the team and Pickens’ representative, Trevon Smith, that are likely to happen in the near future.

Drama surrounding Parsons’ “business transaction” won’t hinder Pickens’ talks

Back in May, Dallas acquired Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick from the Steelers for a 2026 third-rounder and a fifth-rounder in ’27. Pickens will make $3.7 million this year and hit free agency in the offseason. Negotiations between Pickens, his agent, and the team are not far off. If the two sides can’t agree, the promising receiver may end up elsewhere after a single season in Dallas.

Those discussions won’t be influenced, Mulugheta said, by the Parsons saga this summer, even though Smith is his close colleague at the firm.

“There’s nothing personal here, ” Parsons’ agent claimed. “It’s a business transaction as far as the contract’s concerned. So if George Pickens does what we expect him to do, which is be one of the best receivers in the NFL this year, we’ll have those conversations with the Cowboys.”

A second-round pick in 2022, the third-year target compiled 900 receiving yards in 14 games last year, in an unideal quarterback situation featuring Justin Fields and Russsell Wilson. In a full season in 2023, Pickens brought in 63 catches for 1,140 yards from the likes of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky. While the 24-year-old has well-documented attitude issues, his talent is undeniable.

On top of that, Pittsburgh’s quarterback carousel might have held back his full potential. Pickens won’t be a No. 1 option in Dallas – Ceedee Lamb will – but if QB Dak Prescott stays healthy, he will be one of the league’s top No. 2’s. A breakout year could be coming.

If that happens, the Cowboys will have to pay up to keep him – a lot less than what Parsons got from the Packers, but a lot more than what Pickens makes now. “If they’re open to having that dialogue with us and negotiate a long-term deal,” Mulugheta said, “then we’d love for George Pickens to be a star with the star on his helmet. If that’s not the case, then we’ll see what else is out there for him.”

Especially involving a player like Pickens, more drama in Dallas could be on the way.
