Bleacher Report writer thinks free agent Dolphins Corner would be “PERFECT” Signing for Jets
There was nothing to write home about how the Miami Dolphins fared on the defensive side of the ball as a collective unit in 2025. While the Dolphins’ unit wasn’t the-worst-in-football bad, they didn’t defend the pass well with any real consistency throughout the long season and had a totally inept run defense at times, especially early on. On top of that, they were a -4 in the turnover game on the season, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t players who shone individually on the less glamorous side of the ball for Miami.
Cornerback Rasul Douglas was among the few bright spots from the Dolphins’ subpar defensive unit during the 2025 season. Douglas was a last-minute signing, not long before the start of the campaign, on a one-year deal, yet he turned out to be a stellar addition.
It’s difficult to make an argument that any Dolphin did a better job defending the pass a season ago. Douglas paced the team in both interceptions (two) and passes defended (13) across 15 games played (13 starts). Additionally, he tallied 62 combined tackles, 37 solo tackles, 25 assisted tackles, and two tackles for loss in his ninth pro season.
However, his time in Miami could already be over. Douglas is still an unsigned free agent, and Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport argued that he would be a “perfect” free-agent signing for the New York Jets, a team that’s replete with cap space.
For a Jets team that was miserably bad at forcing interceptions last season, acquiring a real interception threat like Douglas makes a lot of sense on paper. Astonishingly, New York went the entirety of the campaign without coming up with so much as a single interception, and Douglas has registered 21 picks in his career, including six seasons with at least two interceptions.
An additional factor to consider if Douglas joins the Jets is that he’ll be sticking around in the AFC East division, and thus, he’ll cross paths with his old team, the Dolphins, quite often.
