The Denver Broncos lost on a last-second field goal to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 of the NFL season. It was back-to-back games for Denver losing in the final moments of the contest, a frustrating trend that Broncos Country hopes dies quickly.

During the contest, quarterback Bo Nix was off on a few plays that ultimately could have swung the game in Denver's favor. He missed a couple of big throws throughout the contest, with the ball just barely out of the reach of his receivers. It wasn't all Nix and the loss shouldn't rest solely on his shoulders, as self-inflicting wounds and countless penalties killed multiple drives for Denver.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a now-viral sideline moment with Nix, and his statements during the game could be felt from fans across the league. Late in the contest, with the Chargers marching down the field, Nix was recorded on the sideline, appearing defeated after another game slipped through his fingers.

"I had so many chances today," Nix said from the sideline.

Bo Nix is struggling through 3 weeks

The second-year quarterback had a few miscues during the contest, with a flea-flicker bouncing off the fingertips of his receiver Marvin Mims Jr. for what would have been a touchdown. Another miscue was late in the contest, when Nix missed his receiver in Courtland Sutton on a crucial third-down play.

Head coach Sean Payton opened up about the early struggles with the deep ball for his talented signal-caller, indicating that he's not too worried about Nix cleaning up some of these things in the future.

“There’s the two deep throws, the flea flicker and then the third-down play," Payton said. "I think you have to be careful you're not overcoaching a deep ball that's going off the fingertips. Now we've seen a couple in the last two weeks, and yet someone asked me about it yesterday. I think that the more concerning problem would be if we're leaving those balls inside where they're susceptible for an interception."

After looking at some advanced metrics, Nix is really struggling against the pressure through three weeks of the NFL season. According to Pro Football Focus, Nix has dropped back 107 times throughout the first three games, 78 when he was kept clean, 29 under pressure. Breaking it down further with their metrics, 73 when not blitzed, and 34 when blitzed.

When Nix is under pressure (29 dropbacks), he's completed 10-of-22 of his passes for 59 yards (45.5% completion percentage) with no touchdowns and one interception. He's performed a little better when he's blitzed (34 dropbacks), going 18-of-30 (60% completion percentage) with two touchdowns and an interception. When kept clean (78 dropbacks), he's been able to complete 51-of-73 passes for 475 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions.

While facing pressure on 27.1% of his dropbacks, it's a part of his game that he needs to turn around. and quickly. The sky isn't falling, but some cracks have shown in his game through the early stages, with defenses undoubtedly taking note of the areas that they can focus on to try and throw the second-year quarterback off his game.

Even when not taking pressure, compared to the rest of the NFL quarterbacks, Nix is the third-worst in the league. It doesn't get better when looking at his performance while facing pressure, where he's been the worst among qualifying quarterbacks.

Nix had plenty of chances in the team's loss to the Chargers, and he knows that he needs to be better moving forward. Denver will look to get the sour taste out of its mouth with a Week 4 matchup against the Bengals on 'Monday Night Football.'
