Brandon Jacobs Reveals Bold Giants Quarterback Plan

New York Giants fans are nothing if not loyal – especially to those who brought a championship to the Big Apple. With that has come a flair for tradition, most notably under center. Texas quarterback Arch Manning is viewed as the heir to Eli Manning’s throne, and there’s a general sentiment that it’s just “right” for New York to take him atop the 2026 NFL Draft.

That’s, at best, a bizarre form of pseudoscience, and endless developments would have to go right (or wrong) for the Giants to take the promised prince and for it to actually work out.

In the meantime, New York is wandering into the 2024 offseason without a quarterback, and without the certainty that a Round 1 passer will be available with the No. 3 pick.

There’s a real chance the Giants pivot to Round 2 or later in the draft, pairing a developmental quarterback with a bridge. While any hopes of bringing the youngest Manning into the fold would have to wait until 2026, New York could have another cosmic realignment under center.

Giants legend Brandon Jacobs revealed his bold quarterback plan on social media: Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart.

“I’ve been watching him and a few others all year,” Jacobs wrote. “Dart is the best outside of the few we speak of daily. Not sure he’d even be there in the 2nd now.”

Eli Manning, of course, was also a Rebel before forcing his way out of San Diego and to East Rutherford. Needless to say, that one worked out pretty well.

Jacobs supported a Dart selection in response to a mock draft that had Colorado corner/receiver picked at No. 3 and then Dart following in Round 2. Given the lack of certainty atop the draft and New York’s need for dynamic talents, Hunter has become a popular candidate in mock drafts. The quarterback they take after that is anyone’s guess.

“Most said Dart is trash,” Jacobs posted. “I think at that pick he’d be great if he’s there. Can’t go wrong with Travis, I’d rather take a guy like that with your first pick over a QB.”

Dart’s natural talent will earn him some fans. He’s creative out of structure, mobile enough to be used as a moderate rushing threat, and has a live arm to make tight-window throws.

However, Ole Miss’ scheme is RPO-heavy and doesn’t ask Dart to do a ton of heavy lifting between the ears. That clouds his projection, and at times he can descend into erratic spells.

The New York faithful would appreciate the Manning parallels, especially if it doesn’t take a first-round pick to acquire. With plenty to hash out in the months before the NFL Draft, the Giants’ situation at quarterback is remarkably fluid. The fate of the rebuild hangs in the balance.
