Breaking Down the Eagles’ Three Newest Signings

The Philadelphia Eagles announced some roster moves, with the Eagles waiving guard Jaden Roberts and tight end Dae'Quan Wright and signing defensive tackle David Blay, running back Ja'Quinden Jackson and edge rusher Tarron Jackson, who all recently worked out for the team. Here's a quick rundown of the new faces that will be battling for a roster spot.

David Blay

Blay was signed by the New England Patriots after the draft, but the young defensive tackle was waived earlier this week and picked up by the Eagles.

Blay took advantage of the modern college football environment by transferring twice during his career, beginning at Division II West Chester before transferring to Louisiana Tech. His breakout season came in his second year with the Bulldogs, when he recorded 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Blay transferred once more, this time to Miami, where he won a national championship. His production dipped during his lone season with the Hurricanes, most likely due to the increase in competition and his role in a much deeper defensive line rotation. That does raise the question of what Blay's production will look like against NFL-level offensive linemen.

Ja'Quinden Jackson

With Elijah Mitchell being placed on the injured reserve, Jackson is the newest addition to the Eagles' running back room. After going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, Jackson spent the following season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad.

Jackson entered his college as a quarterback, making the transition heading into his sophomore year. At 6-foot-2, 233 pounds, Jackson has a physical build that is currently missing from the Eagles' running back room. The 24-year-old was a touchdown machine in his final college season at Arkansas, totaling 15 touchdowns on just 149 carries.

Jackson does not appear to have a particularly strong receiving resume, having caught just 23 passes for 200 yards over his college career. Jackson also is not the most explosive athlete, having posted a 4.75-second 40-yard dash at his Arkansas Pro Day.

His size makes him an interesting option in short-yardage and goal-line situations, but Jackson will be facing an uphill battle to make the Eagles’ roster.

Tarron Jackson

This will not be the first time Jackson has practiced inside the Jefferson Health Training Complex, as the edge rusher was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jackson was a dominant pass rusher at Coastal Carolina, totaling 18.5 sacks over his final two seasons. However, he has struggled to translate that production to the NFL, recording just one career sack, which came during his rookie season, when he also played 82% of his career defensive snaps.

Placed on the IR by the San Francisco 49ers last season, Jackson now gets another opportunity in Philadelphia, where he will look to revive his NFL career with the team that originally drafted him.
