Breece Hall will remain a new York Jet in 2026, Aaron Glenn has a superpower that he revealed to the press and both Alijah Vera-Tucker and John Simpson could be on the way out.
Jets GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn met with the media in Indianapolis today to discuss a few pending decisions the team expects to work through and offered a few nuggets that are important to the team moving forward.
- The most important thing revealed by Mougey is that the team plans to use a tag on running back Breece Hall if a long-term deal can’t get done. The unhappy running back, whether he likes it or not, should be in Green and White again next season.
- When asked about who will call plays on defense this season, Aaron Glenn confirmed what had been widely reported. He will call the defense this year which he said is his “superpower”. Glenn said he missed calling plays last year and decided he wanted to do it again this year. Which begs the question; why didn’t he take it over last season after firing Steve Wilkes, and why did he interview nine different candidates for the job this season and very nearly hire Wink Martindale before the about-face? This is akin to telling your boyfriend or girlfriend that they’re the one you really want, so don’t pay any attention to that active tinder account you started last week.
- Mougey also suggested that Gang Green will allow both Alijah Vera-Tucker and John Simpson to test the free agent market, which means you may want to check out this thread in our draft forums about Vega Ioane from back in January.
- Asked about the possibility of picking up edge rusher Will McDonald’s fifth-year option, Mougey said the team feels good about the possibility of doing that.
