The New York Jets will not release the Breece for today’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
Hall has been ruled inactive for the game after testing his injured quad during pregame warmups, according to NewYorkJets.com. Hall had sparked some hopes that he’d be back this weekend, but was limited in practices on Thursday and Friday. The quad is a key muscle for running and any tightness would risk injury.
Replacement back Braelon Allen has been solid in Hall’s absence, and has gone over the 100-yard mark from total scrimmage in the past two games.
The Jets will also get back No. 2 receiver Adonai Mitchell for this game. He missed four games with a finger injury, but has big play ability and takes some of the heat away from No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson, whom the Jets have vowed to get more involved. The Dolphins game will be the first time since opening day that the Jets have Wilson, Mitchell and impressive rookie Omar Cooper Jr., who is coming off an NFL Rookie of the Week award for his play against New England.
Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. is a surprise inactive for the Dolphins game. He was not listed on Friday’s injury report, and there’s been no word as to what injury he’s sustained. Rookie D’Angelo Ponds is expected to step into Brownlee’s duties for the Dolphins game. The second-round draft choice has been lightly used by the Jets after missing all of training camp as he recovered from a calf strain.
Also inactive for the Dolphins game is defensive lineman Jack Heflin, offensive lineman Max Mitchell, edge Joseph Ossai and left guard Dylan Parham are also inactive. Running back Kene Nwangwu, a key to the return game, is also shelved for the Dolphins game with a knee injury. He was rocked on several returns against the Patriots, and how badly he’s been hurt remains to be seen.
The Jets also announced that they’ve placed linebacker Kiko Mauigoa on injured reserve. Mauigoa has a quadriceps injury that he sustained against New England. He’s been inactive for several games this season. The Jets will replace him with rookie linebacker Jaden Keller on the active roster and have elevated Troy Reeder from the practice squad to fortify the linebacking corps.
The Jets are 5.5 home favorites in their game against Miami today at MetLife Stadium. The Jets are 2-4, while the Dolphins are 0-5 on the season.
