Despite a heart breaking 19-17 defeat Sunday to the Jacksonville Jaguars, there were some individual bright spots Eagles fans can feel good about heading into Week 6:

Jalen Carter’s coming out party

Defensive lineman Jalen Carter has been hampered this season with to a hairline fracture in his right wrist. However, he came alive on Sunday with two sacks, a tackle for loss, a pass defense and five tackles. If Carter can consistently become the disrupter he is capable of, the Eagles defense instantly improves.

All he does is catch touchdowns

Second-year wideout Darius Cooper seems to have a knack for finding the end zone. Four of his seven catches this year have gone for touchdowns. His latest dash to paydirt came on a 62-yard catch and run against the Jaguars on Sunday. In his first year as an Eagles offensive starter, Cooper has already made his mark as a dependable option.

Dontayvion Wicks is clutch on third down

Another Eagles wide receiver is also paying dividends. Dontayvion Wicks ended the game with five catches for 63 yards. Wicks has been featured on some deep route concepts and also has grown into a reliable target on third down situations. Four of his five catches came on successful third down conversion attempts. Wicks was also targeted on another third down that resulted in a Jaguars penalty and an automatic first down for Philadelphia. This is outstanding production considering Wicks was acquired from Green Bay for a 2026 fifth round draft choice and a 2027 sixth rounder.

Defense starting to come together

Shoddy tackling and a lack of big plays plagued Philadelphia’s defense in the early portion of the season. However, the Eagles seem to have turned a corner defensively as of late. They held the high-powered Jaguars offense to just 10 points through the first three quarters. Last week, Philadelphia also held a high-powered Los Angeles Rams offense to only 10 points through three quarters.

For a franchise built on a hard-nosed, physical style of football, this is an encouraging sign. Regardless of the offensive struggles, the Philadelphia Eagles will be in most games if the defense continues to perform at its current level.
