Brock Bowers knows exactly what it is like to handle the weight of expectations.
As the first-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, Bowers was tasked with being an impact contributor right away. Needless to say, he accomplished that goal with a record-breaking rookie campaign. When Ashton Jeanty arrived in the fold with the sixth overall pick this season, Bowers knew he was going to have to help his new teammate get acclimated in the same environment.
During the first few weeks as Jeanty struggled to find his footing, it was the perfect opportunity for Bowers to give the talented running back some advice.
Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, Bowers shared what he said to Jeanty.
“Just do your thing,” Bowers said. “I mean, you’ve played football since you were little. It’s still just football at the end of the day. You’re still getting the handoff and running. You just got to do what you do every single day. It’s not too different.”
For a rookie running back who was averaging barely over three yards per carry in his first three games, it was the message Jeanty needed to hear at that time.
Over the past few games, Jeanty has turned his season around 180 degrees. He went off for his first 100-yard game against the Chicago Bears in Week Four, and has also gotten three touchdowns over the past three weeks. It has not been the easiest ride for Jeanty, but seeing his confidence grow with each passing week has earned him the trust of his teammates and the coaching staff.
“He goes out there the last couple weeks, breaking tackles, running through dudes and making people miss. It’s really cool to see,” Bowers added.
Jeanty’s not quite the elite running back that was expected just yet, but he is on the right path to making that a reality.
