Brock Purdy: 49ers have what it takes to win the Super Bowl

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy attended this year's Dwight Clark Legacy Series event on Wednesday, where he sat down with NBC Sports Bay Area's Laura Britt to discuss expectations for the 2026 NFL season.

Purdy has already experienced a Super Bowl run with the 49ers following the 2023 season. However, San Francisco fell short in the championship game, leaving the team motivated to finish the job and bring another Lombardi Trophy to the franchise.

The 49ers entered last season with Super Bowl aspirations, but injuries throughout the roster derailed those hopes, and San Francisco was eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Still, Purdy believes a healthy 49ers team has everything needed to compete for a championship.

"You guys have seen it in years past—NFC Championship, getting to the Super Bowl, being right there," Purdy said. "Obviously, how 2023 ended with that taste in our mouth of being right there and not being able to finish, obviously, we have what it takes to go all the way and win it when we're at full strength and good to go."

Purdy also dealt with injuries last season, appearing in only nine games due to a turf toe injury. The quarterback is hoping for a healthier and more consistent 2026 campaign.

At the same time, Purdy understands that talent and health alone will not guarantee success. The 49ers know they must execute at a high level and remain disciplined throughout the season to accomplish their ultimate goal.

"Even though we are at full strength and full health, that's not guaranteed," Purdy added. "And that's the cool thing about the guys that we have in the locker room, in our organization, is no one just sits there and goes, 'Oh, look at our roster and how beautiful it looks.' No, the guys are ready to go.

"When it's said and done, we want to be able to come back, just like all these other guys [in 49ers history], and have rings on our fingers, and be able to celebrate those key wins and moments for the history of the 49ers. That's what's on our mind, so we've got to do it."

Purdy acknowledged that the adversity-filled 2025 season left a sour taste in the team's mouth, fueling the motivation to return stronger in 2026.

"You have to go out, you have to earn it," Purdy said. "You have to have the chip on your shoulder and be a team that goes out and hunts. For what we did last year, with guys going down, having young guys and new guys step up and ready to go, and for us to go into the playoffs and get a win on the road in Philly and all that, that's, for us, it's very encouraging, obviously, going into this year, getting our guys back and healthy.

"But having that same chip on the shoulder, you can't lose it."
