Arizona Cardinals outside linebacker Josh Sweat avoided a fine after an incident with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in Week 3.
The NFL released its Week 3 accountability report on Saturday, and Sweat can now breathe a sigh of relief.
This comes after he was left out of the report and avoided a $17,911 roughing-the-passer fine under the NFL’s fines schedule.
Sweat committed the personal foul at the 9:14 mark of the fourth quarter when he tackled Purdy on third-and-6. The 49ers QB’s pass was incomplete, but officials flagged Sweat for making illegal contact on Purdy’s facemask.
What would have been a fourth-down stop for the Cardinals became a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down for the 49ers. Purdy eventually found George Kittle for a touchdown on the same drive, pushing the San Francisco’s lead to 29-20.
The 49ers eventually secured the win, 36-30, improving to 3-0. Purdy finished the game with 15 of 27 completed passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns.
The Pro Bowl QB was also at the center of a similar incident in Week 1, when Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Tyler Davis was penalized for a hit on Purdy. Davis was slapped with a $6,225 fine for a blow to the head/neck.
Purdy and Co. kept their foot on the gas in Week 4. They defeated the Denver Broncos 24-14 on Sunday to improve to 4-0. They are tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC’s best record at 4-0.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, dropped to 1-3 after another loss on Sunday. They fell to the New York Giants on the road, 36-24.
