Key Denver Broncos 'Monday Night Football' Storylines

Russell Wilson in a Denver Broncos jersey might take some getting used to and this will be especially true for Seattle Seahawks fans. Wilson spent the first 10 years of his career with the Seahawks, capturing a Super Bowl title, ironically against the Broncos. However over time things got rocky between Wilson and Coach Pete Carroll, ultimately leading to a blockbuster offseason trade. It will be very interesting to see what type of greeting he gets from Seattle's "12th Man" fans.

The Denver Broncos have a new groove coming into 2022 as they look to end a six-year playoff drought. They have a new head coach in offensive guru Nathaniel Hackett, Wilson manning the controls, and a roster filled with youthful exuberance. Their offense is loaded with talents like Javonte Williams, Courtland Sutton, and Jerry Jeudy and their defense is young and hungry with playmakers like Pat Surtain II, Justin Simmons and Bradley Chubb.

Monday night's game will be ushering in a new era in Denver. Will head coach Nathaniel Hackett and the Broncos let Russ cook? Will the Broncos be immediate contenders this year with Wilson? These questions and more will start to be answered Monday night.

Key Seattle Seahawks 'Monday Night Football' Storylines

On the Seahawks side, they will begin 2022 with Geno Smith as QB1. After jettisoning Wilson and letting All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner walk in free agency, a rebuild could be in order, but that has been downplayed by Coach Carroll. The team continues to have top-shelf weapons like DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Rashaad Penny.

Certainly the Seahawks fortunes will be riding on the shoulders of Geno Smith and it will be interesting to see how he holds up in his first game as the clear starter. A veteran quarterback who has bounced around the league in recent years, Smith played well in limited time as a backup when Wilson went down last year with injury. He was the Jets starting quarterback for a few years before fizzling out. While he never ranked among the best at the position, this is the best chance he's had to start in years.

Look out for Seahawk players to make a name for themselves in this game. In a year that could decide who will be building blocks for the future and who is going to be shipped away, they're going to give it their best effort. A lot of unknowns might prove themselves to be franchise cornerstones. The fact their former quarterback is back in town will make them want to win even more.
