John Franklin-Myers, the Denver Broncos’ hard-hitting defensive end, is making waves with his push for a contract extension. Fresh off a career-high 7.0 sacks in 2024, he’s not staying quiet.
Franklin-Myers, now in the final year of a two-year, $15 million contract, believes there’s enough to go around. “I love my brothers, we can all eat!” he declared on X on July 14. His plea follows praise from 104.3 Denver Sports’ Zach Bye, who noted Franklin-Myers’ durability outshines teammate Zach Allen’s 8.5 sacks.

Bye, on “The Drive” on July 7, emphasized the slim gap between the two linemen. “It’s almost like John Franklin-Myers didn’t have 7.0 [sacks],” he told former Bronco Phillip Lindsay. Lindsay agreed, arguing Franklin-Myers’ contributions match Allen’s, making him equally deserving of a pay bump.
Acquired from the New York Jets in a 2024 draft trade, Franklin-Myers started 16 of 17 games, ranking second among Broncos’ defensive linemen in snap share, per Pro Football Reference.
His 7.0 sacks and 36 hurries, per Pro Football Focus, fueled Denver’s franchise-record 63 sacks in 2024. Yet, the drafting of Sai’vion Jones signals long-term planning.
General manager George Paton remains unrushed, citing in-season deals like Jonathon Cooper’s $54 million extension. With $40.8 million in projected 2025 cap space, per Over The Cap, extending Franklin-Myers is feasible but competes with priorities like Courtland Sutton and Nik Bonitto.
Franklin-Myers’s vocal campaign keeps him in the spotlight. Will Denver secure their defensive standout, or will budget battles push him out? The answer looms as training camp kicks off.
