Brent Sobieski of Bleacher Report recently published an article highlighting one undrafted free agent (UDFA) from each NFL team most likely to make the roster. For the Denver Broncos, Sobieski predicted they would keep a UDFA on the offensive line, a position they didn’t address during the draft.
Despite entering the draft needing offensive help, the Broncos opted for three offensive picks, three defensive picks, and one special teams selection, shifting from the expected offensive-heavy approach.
Clay Webb is projected to be that UDFA who sticks in Denver. Webb can block defensive linemen and linebackers at a high level, excelling in both pass protection and the run game.
Though he may need time to fully adjust back to center, the potential for his development makes him a promising prospect for the Broncos.
At Jacksonville State, Webb was part of a run-heavy offense, which could make him a more effective run blocker in the NFL. He also proved himself in the Senior Bowl, where he performed well against a significant increase in competition.
While slightly undersized, Webb’s strength and hand usage more than compensate for concerns about his height.
Though Webb may be more of a project than a polished prospect, he has the strength and skills to become a solid NFL player.
Under the guidance of Broncos head coach Sean Payton and offensive line coach Zach Strief, Webb could be a hidden gem with a few years of experience. He might not be the flashiest signing, but he has the potential to be another undrafted player who makes a significant impact in the league.
Sobieski’s article also predicts the Broncos will transition Webb from guard to center. While he played guard throughout his college career, his lack of athleticism and technique made it unlikely he’d have a long, successful career at that position.
However, his strong performance at the Senior Bowl as a center demonstrated that he could succeed in the NFL in that role while providing valuable depth at guard.
The article also notes the Broncos' need for another capable center on the roster. With starting center Luke Wattenberg entering the final year of his contract and backup Alex Forsyth yet to prove himself as a reliable starter, Webb could fill that void.
Moreover, Webb’s versatility and potential to contribute at multiple positions make him an ideal candidate to make the roster, and in time, he could play meaningful snaps for the Broncos.
Webb, a former five-star recruit, began his career at Georgia, redshirting and appearing in five games over three years. He later transferred to Jacksonville State, starting 32 games over his final three seasons and earning First-Team All-Conference USA honors in his senior year.
