Bo Nix’s second season with the Denver Broncos ended in heartbreak. After leading his team to a 33-30 overtime victory over Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round, it was announced that Nix had sustained a season-ending injury. The 25-year-old quarterback broke a bone in his right ankle in the second-to-the-last play of the game.

Nix underwent surgery on Tuesday. Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced on Wednesday that the procedure “went well.”

Nix took to social media on Wednesday shortly after Payton’s update. The former Oregon Ducks star sent a lengthy message addressing his season-ending injury.

Nix had a big year for Denver in 2025. He played all 17 games in the regular season, registering 388-of-612 passes (63.4%) for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Broncos star also added 356 yards and five rushing TDs on 83 carries.

Thanks in large part to Nix’s strong play, Denver finished the season with a 14-3 record to clinch the AFC West title and the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Nix got emotional in his Instagram post on Wednesday, opening up about his unfortunate situation. The former No. 12 overall pick, however, remains grateful and optimistic.

“The last few days have been hard to put into words,” Nix posted.

“What started as one of the most exciting games I’ve ever been a part of ended with some of the most devastating football news I’ve ever received. This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it.”

Nix shared how proud he is of the Broncos as they prepare for the conference championship game against the New England Patriots. Nix offered his support to backup QB Jarrett Stidham, who is set to make his first start of the season on Sunday.

Nix then went on to express his appreciation for all the support he’s received since he suffered the injury.

“Thank you all for the kind words, love and support over the last few days,” he continued. “Thankful for my trainers, Beau, Vince and Dr. Waldrop for taking great care of me.

“God never says oops, and he is always good. He has big plans for this team. We’re not finished, as a matter of fact we’re just getting started. We’re just going to keep climbing higher.

“Go Broncos.”

Nix plans to be in attendance for Sunday's matchup against New England. The Patriots will host the conference championship game at Empower Field at Mile High, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
