Rookie running back RJ Harvey has only been a part of the Denver Broncos organization for just under six weeks. The Broncos took Harvey with the No. 60 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the highest such selection used on a running back since Javonte Williams (No. 35 overall, 2021).
Harvey, with his compact and muscular 5-foot-8, 205-pound frame, has utilized his physicality throughout his football career. Many of Harvey's physical attributes – most notably, a pair of large quads – have warranted attention and positive comments, including from teammate Bo Nix.
“He's done a really good job working," Nix said last week, according to Broncos Wire's Jon Heath. "He does a good job out of the backfield. It's hard to tell with shorts and a shirt what it’s like running the ball with no pads, but that's obviously why we got him."
Nix added that there is more to Harvey's game that have drawn eyes towards the running back.
"You know he can run the ball, but I think it's the other things that he's showing. Just the routes, [his] suddenness and quickness in his hands. I think all that's really good to see, but he's a great guy, first and foremost, then I think it’s going to translate for him being a successful player.”
Harvey enters his first stint as a professional coming off consecutive 1,000-plus-yard seasons at UCF. Last year, he set career highs in rushing attempts (232), rushing yards (1,577) and rushing touchdowns (22), while also remaining active in the Knights' passing game.
Across four years with UCF, Harvey gained 3,792 rushing yards on 579 carries and caught 61 passes for 720 receiving yards, scoring 47 touchdowns in the process. He began his college career at Virginia, where was originally a quarterback before changing positions.
