Broncos signing linebacker, special teams whiz Alex Singleton

The Broncos continue to make moves.

Denver is signing linebacker Alex Singleton, per James Palmer of NFL Network. Palmer's colleague Mike Garafolo reports that the deal is for one year and $1.1 million guaranteed with another $750,000 available via incentives.

Singleton, who was the Eagles' leading tackler last season, looks to help bolster the team's linebackers corps to defend against the run and pass. Moreover, he figures to provide an instant boost to the team's special teams; Singleton was the Eagles' special teams captain and is widely considered among the top special teams players in the league.

The Denver special teams unit is in need of a boost. Last season, the Broncos ranked 27th in special teams in the NFL per Sports Illustrated's Rick Gosselin's Special Teams Rankings. Singleton alone won't boost them to the top of the league, but his signing demonstrates a conscious effort to improve in the third phase of the game by the Broncos.

Singleton also will be a key part of Denver's linebacker group. He logged 120 tackles in 2020 and 137 in 2021, though just nine tackles came for a loss.

The Broncos already signed stud pass rusher Randy Gregory this offseason. They also inked defensive tackle D.J. Jones and linebacker Josey Jewell to deals, in addition to obviously acquiring quarterback Russell Wilson in one of the biggest moves of the entire offseason.
