It's only May, and yet, the Cleveland Browns already have a quarterback controversy on their hands.
Browns coach Todd Monken announced earlier this year that Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson would battle for the starting quarterback job. Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported this week that Watson has the "inside track" at being the Week 1 starter. She even suggested that Cleveland should name him the starter as early as this week.
“With my breaking news here that Deshaun Watson has taken the lead over Shedeur Sanders in the Browns QB competition and has the inside track to win it, I think they should declare him QB1 asap and let the 1st team offense start to cook,” Cabot wrote on social media. “There’s no time to waste.”
Those comments from Cabot didn't sit well with Sanders' brother Shilo, who responded by telling Cabot to "make a sandwich."
Shilo Sanders wasn't done ripping Cabot publicly.
“If you’re going to be a reporter, be a reporter and report facts,” Shilo said. “Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, it makes it seem like it’s something weird, like it’s an agenda that you have going on.”
Monken didn't address Shilo Sanders' harsh remark, but he did say that he's not ready to name a starting quarterback.
"Would love to [have a starter before training camp]," Monken told Ken Carman. "But I’m not there yet so I can’t say that. We’ve been on the field 3 days."

“Would love to” have a QB before training camp. “But I’m not there yet so I can’t say that. We’ve been on the field 3 days.”
Now that Monken has said he's not ready to name a starter, Browns fans are questioning if Cabot has an anti-Shedeur agenda. While there's zero evidence she does, that won't stop people from firing off angry tweets.
"There everyone has it….straight from the mouth of the actual person who makes the decision," one fan said.
"Sounds contradictory to what Mary has told us," a second fan wrote.
"The fact that the coach gotta go on this show to clear up this mess the ownership created and a 'source' is ridiculous," another fan commented.
At the end of the day, Sanders will be given the chance to earn the starting job. It's up to him to actually take advantage of this opportunity.
If Sanders can't outperform Watson in practice, there's zero reason for the Browns to believe he'll do better in an actual game.
