Browns confirm Deshaun Watson decision for Seahawks game

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski didn't wait until Friday to confirm an expected decision regarding quarterback Deshaun Watson for Sunday's game at the 4-2 Seattle Seahawks.

As shared by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Stefanski told reporters Wednesday that Watson won't play against Seattle as the 28-year-old recovers from what has been called a rotator cuff strain/"micro-tear" in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Cleveland officially signed backup P.J. Walker to the 53-man roster so Walker can play in Watson's place for a third consecutive game.

Watson first suffered a shoulder injury in the win over the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 24 and then missed the Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens ahead of Cleveland's bye. It was reported before he sat for the Week 6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers that he "could miss multiple more games," but Stefanski nevertheless started Watson at the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday.

Watson took a nasty shot in the first quarter of the Indianapolis game and remained a spectator through the rest of the contest even though he cleared the NFL's concussion protocol. ESPN's Adam Schefter then reported Tuesday night that Watson is dealing with "a strain of the subscapularis within the rotator cuff."

Walker helped the Browns earn back-to-back wins to improve to 4-2 but, per ESPN stats, would be responsible for the league's worst adjusted QBR on the campaign (23.4) if he was among qualified players. Thus far, he has tossed zero touchdown passes and three interceptions across two games this season.

While some previously linked the Browns with Minnesota Vikings starter Kirk Cousins, that was before Cousins guided his club to a 22-17 win over the 49ers that improved the Vikings to 3-4 this past Monday night. Titans veteran Ryan Tannehill could become available either before or after next Tuesday's trade deadline, but it's unclear if the Browns have any interest in taking a flier on the 35-year-old currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

Following the latest Watson update, OddsChecker listed the Browns as three-and-a-half-point road underdogs against the Seahawks.
