The Cleveland Browns defense is the number one reason why this team is going to the playoffs.
Yes, the Joe Flacco story is unbelievable and several guys on offense have played their part, but without this historic defense, Cleveland's season would have ended in October.
There are so many fun stats that this defense put up this year but not all are relevant heading into the matchup with Houston. Here are three stats that stand out ahead of Saturday's game.
The Browns' defense ranks eighth in the NFL with a pressure percentage of 23 percent. They do so with a defensive front that was built to get after the quarterback on the edges and stop the run from the interior. Conversely, CJ Stroud is 41st in the NFL with a 3.03 second time to throw. He likes to sit in the pocket, giving the Browns a good chance to heat him up and make him uncomfortable.
The Cleveland defense has only allowed the opponent to score of 50 of their 210 drives this season. The 23.8 percent scoring drives allowed stat ranks first in the NFL and will play a role in Saturday's game. While the Texans are explosive, their offense has a feast-or-famine feel to it. On the year they have only 40 touchdown drives which is two less than the Browns, even with all of the quarterback turnover. Keeping Houston out of the endzone is paramount for the Browns on Saturday.

The Cleveland passing defense is the best in the NFL, period. The cornerback room is made up of three stud defenders Denzel Ward, MJ Emerson and Greg Newsome. This trio sets the tone. Behind them will be a collection of Ronnie Hickman, Juan Thornhill and D'Anthony Bell who have all played at a high level this year. Houston wants to throw the ball and good luck to them having to get after the best passing defense in the NFL.
The Browns' defense matches up well with Houston's offense. The key is for them to show up on Sunday and take care of business. They definitely have the tools to get the job done.
