Browns have already seen 'greatness' from Deshaun Watson

Members of the Cleveland Browns sound eager to have quarterback Deshaun Watson atop the depth chart.

"It was cool just being able to see him out there," Cleveland wide receiver Amari Cooper said of Watson on Thursday, according to Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. "Like I said in the last interview with you guys, had greatness on display. We've seen that greatness on display from Deshaun over and over again. So anytime you're around a great player it’s just great to see, great to be around."

Watson became eligible to resume practicing with the Browns earlier this week per the terms of his 11-game suspension related to allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions. Cleveland traded with the Houston Texans for the 27-year-old this past March and has had backup Jacoby Brissett starting in Watson's place.

Brissett will lead the 3-6 Browns into this Sunday's game against the 6-3 Buffalo Bills that was relocated to Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, because of a storm that reportedly could cause roughly five feet of snow to fall in the Buffalo region.

"He looked good," Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt added about Watson. "I know he's been working hard while he's been away from the building. Excited to see him out there. He made some throws after practice in what we call an 'opportunity period.' You're like, 'Oh, OK, that's impressive stuff.' So he looks good. Continue to work him in. He's been in the room for a while now, so I think he has a good understanding of how we work in a game week and transitioning him in when the time comes."

It was reported last month that Watson had been working out with personal quarterback coach Quincy Avery throughout his suspension.

As for Brissett, ESPN stats show the 29-year-old began Thursday 19th among eligible quarterbacks with an 87.1 passer rating, seventh with a 61.6 total QBR, and 16th with 2,074 passing yards on the campaign. In nine contests, he's thrown eight touchdown passes and five interceptions.

Following Week 11, the Browns will need Brissett for their home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 27. Barring an unforeseen circumstance, Watson should be cleared to make his Cleveland regular-season debut at none other than the Texans in Week 13 on Dec. 4.
