Browns HC Kevin Stefanski 'disappointed' he didn't 'get the most out of' Odell Beckham Jr.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters earlier this week he needed to "do a better job" of getting wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. involved in the offense after quarterback Baker Mayfield officially targeted Beckham just once in last Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Stefanski's words did little to quell drama that included Beckham's father using social media to blame Mayfield for on-the-field miscues between the two, however, and the Browns officially parted ways with Beckham on Friday morning.

Following a report that Beckham requested a trade from the Browns as far back as this past offseason as he was recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in October 2020, Stefanski addressed the media and spoke about what went wrong between the team and his now-former player.

"I think I’ve told you guys this and I do believe this, it’s my job to get the most out of our players," he said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I’m always disappointed when I can’t do that. . . . I don’t know if I can get into all the specifics, I just tell you it didn’t work out. Again, I’m disappointed that I couldn’t do a better job, but I think both sides are going to move on."

Beckham leaves the Browns with just 17 catches for 232 yards and no touchdowns this season.

Stefanski and company must put this situation behind them as soon as possible, as the 4-4 Browns play a crucial divisional game at the 5-3 Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.
