The Cleveland Browns are in a quarterback fix entering the 2026 NFL season. With four QBs on the team already, the QB1 position is yet to be claimed. And now, the Browns could be on the lookout to add another QB next year, reportedly Notre Dame’s CJ Carr.

The 2027 NFL Mock Draft has helped teams take a peek at the upcoming class, especially the QBs of the lot. According to NFL draft analyst Jordan Reid, the Browns may target Notre Dame quarterback and a prospect with a strong upstride, CJ Carr.

“Every year a QB ascends from the pack and shoots up the draft. Carr could be that guy in 2027 after an encouraging first season,” writes Reid, according to Brownsnation.com’s X post. “The sample is small but expanding on his 2025 season would put him in a position to be taken by a team such as the Browns, who will likely be willing to take a swing at a QB early despite selecting three in the past two drafts.”

CJ Carr only featured in one game in 2024, but was phenomenal in his second year. The redshirt sophomore featured in 12 games in 2025.

Last year, he threw for 2,741 yards, had 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions, with a completion rate of 66.7%. His stats earned him the second-team Freshman All-American honors among many other accolades.

In the Browns’ camp, insiders report that the QB1 competition has narrowed down to either Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders. With Watson, there are concerns regarding his contract ending next year and his performance back on the field after his Achilles injury.

Sanders has had a notable collegiate career, but his rookie year wasn’t impressive, featuring 10 interceptions for his seven passing scores.

According to this latest report, the Browns might add another QB during the NFL Draft event in April 2027. Carr is projected to be in the top-5 picks next year.

If drafted by the Browns, it will be an interesting addition. Much like Shedeur Sanders, Carr also comes from football roots.

Lloyd Carr’s Football Legacy Continues With CJ Carr

The Notre Dame QB, CJ Carr, comes from a lineage of successful footballers. The 20-year-old is the grandson of Lloyd Carr, the former head coach of the University of Michigan from 1995 to 2007.
