Browns Make Dillon Gabriel Announcement Amid QB Battle

The Cleveland Browns had one of the most interesting drafts of any NFL team, and one of their most intriguing picks was quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whom they selected with the No. 94 pick in the third round.

Throughout his collegiate career, he proved he could put up big numbers, and in 2024, he finished third in Heisman Trophy voting, completing 326 of 447 passes for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Of course, he's quickly gotten to work with the Browns, attending their rookie mini camp from May 9 to 11, and has been participating in the team's OTA workouts, scheduled from May 27 to 29 and June 3 to 5.

On Wednesday, the Browns announced that they have officially signed Gabriel to his four-year rookie deal, with Spotrac reporting that it's set to be valued at $6.2 million.

Of the seven rookies the Browns drafted, Gabriel has become the sixth to sign his contract, and it comes at a good time, considering he no longer needs to think about it while being in the middle of an intense quarterback battle.

Not only is he fighting veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, as well as fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders to be the team's starter going into Week 1, but also for a spot on the 53-man roster, as one of the four is likely to be let go.

It's still early in the offseason, so roles aren't set in stone, but on Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski did say that both Dillon and Sanders are "doing great."

That's certainly a good sign, and in a prediction from Damon Wolfe of Dawgs By Nature, he has Gabriel becoming one of the three to make the roster, while Flacco is the odd man out.
