Browns Make QB Change
USA TODAY Sports

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers rivals, the Cleveland Browns are making a quarterback to their quarterback room, waiving backup P.J. Walker while also elevating Joe Flacco from the practice squad.

Flacco started for the Browns last week for the first time. He completed 23 of 44 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception. He started in place of rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who missed the week because of a concussion.

Thompson-Robinson, Cleveland's fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is 1-2 as a starter for the Browns, after taking over for Deshaun Watson. His only win came against the Steelers.

He returned from concussion protocol this week, but head coach Kevin Stefanski did not name a starter for their matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Walker's release likely means the Browns will sign Flacco to the 53-man roster next week. Whether or not he'll be the starter is yet to be determined, and it's also possible Cleveland tries to ride the hot hand - which could change on a week-to-week basis - while they navigate through the season without Watson.

Walker was 1-1 as a starter this season and played most of Week 7 as the Browns won over the Colts.
