The Cleveland Browns have a new head coach, and with him, potentially a new quarterback pecking order.
Todd Monken admitted it was too early to name a starting quarterback, adding that Deshaun Watson would get a fair chance to win the job back. However, either the social media team feels otherwise, or it knows something most of us don't. Otherwise, it wouldn't have included Shedeur Sanders instead of Watson in the schedule release video.
The Browns shared a Street Fighter-themed video to announce their schedule, featuring prominent players like Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward and Carson Schwesinger.
Notably, it also showed Sanders, but there was no mention of Watson whatsoever. Considering that, it's hard not to speculate that people inside the building either think Sanders will ultimately win the job or want him to.
Of course, Monken will decide at the end of the day, and getting the nod in training camp doesn't necessarily mean whoever they get at quarterback will stay on the field for the whole season. That said, there's no upside to playing Watson, who'll finally be a free agent at the end of the season and has had his fair share of run-ins with the team's owner and the fans.
Sanders might not be a polished prospect, but at least he's young and offers this team a glimmer of hope that he might be the long-awaited savior at the most important position in sports.
