Browns QB Shedeur Sanders confirms new jersey number

Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his rookie season in Cleveland with a mixed bag. He flashed the same big-play ability that made him a standout at Colorado, but the NFL also exposed some things he'll need to clean up.

The Cleveland Browns drafted him in the fifth round in 2025, and he got thrown into action sooner than anyone expected. Across seven starts, Sanders threw for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He even landed a Pro Bowl nod after several top quarterbacks passed on the game. But one problem kept showing up. He held the ball way too long, which led to 23 sacks in just eight appearances.

Shedeur Sanders reclaims legendary No. 2

Still, there's reason to believe things can turn around. Sanders is focused on locking down the starting job by Week 1 in 2026, and he'll be doing it in his college number.

The Browns quarterback announced he's switching to jersey No. 2 moving forward. It looks like Sanders is ready to bring back the 2Legendary Brand.

Todd Monken addressed Browns' quarterback question

A new era is underway in Cleveland, but one big question lingers. Todd Monken is now running the show for the Browns, and expectations are growing for real improvement in 2026. The biggest unknown is still at quarterback. Who actually takes the first snap?

Right now, the team isn't committing to anything. Monken has praised Sanders and pointed to his natural playmaking instincts, but he hasn't handed out any guarantees about playing time or a starting role.

Speaking at the combine, Monken talked about what jumps out on tape, which was Sanders' ability to create plays and deliver when it counts. At the same time, he didn't ignore the clear gap in development. Like any rookie, Sanders has work to do. Monken made it clear he's looking forward to working with Sanders and the entire quarterback room.
