Browns solidify backup QB with latest signing

A familiar face is returning to Cleveland that will bring the team better security at the quarterback position in 2023.

It was announced that the Browns signed QB Joshua Dobbs to a one-year, $2 million contract last night.

Dobbs was in Cleveland in 2022 before getting the chance to start a couple of games in Tennessee. The 28-year-old threw for 411 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions as a Titan. He also played in an additional six games with the Steelers from 2018 to 2020.

The move provides the Browns with much better insurance than what they had behind QB Deshaun Watson. Kellen Mond was the only other quarterback on the roster before adding Dobbs back into the mix.

Mond is signed through 2024 but he has just two completions for five yards in one game with limited action.

Dobbs, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Pittsburgh, now heads back to the AFC North where he has spent the majority of his career.

It isn't the flashiest move Cleveland has made in free agency thus far, but it is a necessary one. Plus, you can never go wrong with adding an aerospace engineer to your roster.
