Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett was frustrated by the defense's efforts in a 41-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in front of 70,487 fans at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson dissected the Browns defense, going 19-of-29 passing for 225 yards and four touchdowns. Cleveland only trailed 10-3 at halftime, but the Browns surrendered 31 points in the second half.
Following the game, Garrett told the media that he was embarrassed by the effort given by the whole team, but especially the defense.
"I mean, the s---- embarrassing,” Garrett said via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “We got to be better on defense. We got to be better as a team. They slowly chipped away and we did a solid job, holding them to three when we could, and then eventually the dam broke and they just did whatever they wanted, and we have to continue to play a 60-minute game.”
Garrett did his part to try and keep Jackson in check, finishing the contest with five tackles (two for a loss) and 1.5 sacks.
The Browns did a good job of limiting the Ravens' rushing attack. Baltimore finished with just 45 rushing yards on 21 carries. Derrick Henry rushed 11 times for just 23 yards.
But the passing defense was a liability, and is a concern with the Browns' next opponent coming to town in Week 3.
The 0-2 Browns are set to play the hot Green Bay Packers in Week 3. Quarterback Jordan Love and the Packers have scored 27 points in each of their first two games and look ready to outduel an inconsistent Cleveland offense under quarterback Joe Flacco.
If Cleveland's defense doesn't step up against the Packers, it could be an ugly game, because defensive end Micah Parsons has made Green Bay's defense a juggernaut in the first two weeks.
