Browns trade QB Case Keenum to Bills a day after Deshaun Watson deal

The Cleveland Browns traded Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday for a 2022 seventh-round pick, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

While it's a low-stakes deal that moves a backup quarterback, the question for the Browns will be who starts in the place of newly acquired Deshaun Watson in the event of a suspension. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, that role is expected to go to Jacoby Brissett who will sign a one-year deal with the Browns.

Watson, 26, is facing allegations of sexual misconduct from 22 different women, and the NFL is continuing to investigate the claims. Despite the allegations and the ongoing investigation, Cleveland sent a package to the Houston Texans that included three first-round picks for Watson and quickly signed the quarterback to a record-breaking contract extension.

With Baker Mayfield likely to be traded by the Browns, Keenum was the quarterback set to start in the likely event Watson is suspended.

Keenum, 34, will instead join the Bills and serve as the backup for starter Josh Allen. Mitchell Trubisky previously filled that role, but left in free agency to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. In nine NFL seasons, Keenum has made 64 career starts with 78 touchdown passes and 48 interceptions.
