Browns Waive Kadarius Toney During Roster Cuts

The Cleveland Browns are thinning out the roster. On Tuesday, multiple reports indicated the team waived kick returner and wideout Kadarius Toney.

It's the second time this season Toney has been cut from an NFL roster, after being waived by the Chiefs in August.

The Browns also placed corner Greg Newsome II, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, on injured reserve, ending his season.

Toney's release comes just two days after his late-game blunder in Cleveland's loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. With under three minutes to play, Toney muffed a punt while falling backward. Landing on his rear end, the ball bounced in front of him and was recovered by the Steelers, ending any hope of a Browns comeback.

Toney was signed to the Browns' practice squad on Sept. 9 and was seeing his first action of the season on Sunday. It now could be his only action of the season.

The Browns also announced four new players signed to the practice squad. Kicker Riley Patterson, wideouts Kaden Davis and Jaelen Gill, and offensive tackle Julian Pearl.

Defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour was also released from the practice squad.
