While Philadelphia Eagles fans are on the Tanner McKee train as Jalen Hurts' backup, Kenny Pickett still holds a special place in their hearts.
Pickett is now in Cleveland with the Browns after the Eagles traded him there in the offseason. He is competing for the starting job with Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel. One of Pickett's new teammates believes he could be the guy entering 2025.
While appearing on the "Sports and Suits" podcast, Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson shared that he believes Pickett will be the starting quarterback for the Browns.
"I've been seeing Kenny going like right now with the ones. Then Joe (Flacco) will come in," Johnson said via NFL.com. "I think they are probably going to roll with him just to see like he's coming off a season with Philly and having a Super Bowl. So, I think they are going to stick with him through the preseason. Then you know they can live with Joe and what he brings to the table."
Last year, Pickett started just one game for the Eagles, but appeared in five regular season games. He finished with a 59.5% completion percentage for 291 yards and two touchdowns to one interception while adding a rushing touchdown.
Pickett appeared in the second matchup against the Washington Commanders after Hurts suffered a concussion. The next week, Pickett started against the Dallas Cowboys as he threw two touchdowns, but got knocked out of the game with an injury.
Philadelphia saw the potential that the Pittsburgh Steelers saw when they selected Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He's still developing, entering his fourth season, but players can see what has made him a solid quarterback.
Cleveland needs to find a franchise quarterback with many looking at Flacco to start and Sanders to be the future. Pickett has the perfect blend of youth at 27 and starting experience, which should give him the edge.
Pickett has praised his time in Philadelphia as he learned what a Super Bowl-winning culture looks like. It appears he is applying all that he learned in 2024 and is incorporating it into the Browns.
Eagles fans wouldn't mind seeing him as the starter when Philadelphia and Cleveland meet in the preseason in August. While fans may not want to see the Browns win the Super Bowl over the Eagles, it would be cool to see Pickett utilize his time in Philadelphia to enhance his career and his new team.
